Is it mid-century art or is it a watch repair tool? It's a hairspring detangler! You put the hairspring on the spike in the middle. The knob in the base rotates that spike. The knob on the top (opposite side) moves the detangling spike in and out. So, turning both a the same time, you gradually rotate and move from the inside of the hairspring to the outer extent, detangling as you go along. It was made by the American Horological Tool Manufacturing Corporation. I have never even seen this tool in catalogs before nor have I heard of this company. |
